Did you know you could make granola out of steel-cut oats? I sure didn’t! Since I love crunchy things, when I learned that you could make granola this way, I was so excited and couldn’t wait to experiment with this Steel-Cut Oat Granola recipe!

Granola With Steel-Cut Oats

Making granola with steel-cut oats creates a crunchier texture than traditional homemade granola with rolled oats, like my Simple Homemade Granola recipe.

I think this adds a lovely contrast to creamy yogurt, which is what we serve our kids every morning for breakfast.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are steel-cut oats gluten-free?

Yes, oats are naturally gluten-free. However, there can be some concern for cross-contamination in the facilities that process oats in that they may also process grains containing gluten. If avoiding gluten is necessary for you, be sure that your oats have a gluten-free label on them, like Bob’s Red Mill Gluten-Free Steel-Cut Oats.

Are steel-cut oats better for you than rolled oats?

Steel-cut oats are higher in fiber than rolled oats and have a lower glycemic index. They are also less processed than rolled oats.

Can I swap any of the add-in ingredients?

Absolutely! You can exchange the add-in ingredients (like nuts, seeds, and dried fruit) for whatever your family likes (ex: swap dried cherries for dried cranberries). I encourage you to have fun with it!
